NEVER FORGET: 9/11
So as we all know, the 10 year anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attack on America is today. The day began with ceremonies and television specials on the events. Every year, I watch the specials and every year they get to me.
When I first heard about it, 10 years ago, I was in the 8th grade, probably in my first class when our teachers took us to the prayer room and we watched the events unfold. I did not understand the magnitude, nor did I necessarily understand a terrorist attack. I thought it was an accident, and as the news media kept telling more, I became more and more scared.
I thought about, who would want to kill people in Detroit? I thought they were coming for us. My mom then came to pick my brothers and I up from school, because her building was evacuated since it was across from the federal building in Downtown Detroit. When we got home, we watched the news all day. I fell asleep and thought it was all a dream, but it wasn't.
As we know, life went on, and it seemed like every month something else was happening, whether it be anthrax, or a sniper, or a shoe bomber. Between the ages of 13 & 14, I think my understanding of the world changed and I realized that I can't control everything, and everything isn't always good.
I prayed for those people, and I still pray for their families. That was so tragic, and it showed that what many call the greatest country in the world can be vulnerable. God willing, I will never forget the events of 9/11 nor will I forget how those events changed the world. I know that every day I wake up is a blessing, and I thank God for all He has done for me.
God bless y'all...Never Forget
